Twitter Inc (NYSE: TWTR) has launched Twitter Circle, a feature that allows Twitter users to keep their tweets private. With Twitter Circle, users can choose who can see and engage with their content on a Tweet-by-Tweet basis. According to Twitter, the feature makes it easier to have more intimate conversations as well as build closer connections with select followers.
Before posting a tweet, users can choose who can see it, either a “circle”, which is a limited number of up to 150 people, or a full list of followers. Notably, users also have an option to adjust who is in the circle and who is out at any time. It is pretty much similar to Instagram’s “close friends” feature.
Twitter believes that with the new feature, its platform will be more accessible. Testing of Twitter Circle began back in May, and since then, users have been sharing their experiences. According to their feedback, the feature has helped them personalize their Twitter experience. In particular, they feel more comfortable posting Tweets and expressing themselves as well as avoiding toggling between protected and public account settings.
The company said:
“We want to ensure everyone on Twitter has the choice, control, tools, and transparency to join the conversation how and when they want, and Twitter Circle is another important step in that direction.”
The Twitter Circle feature is already available on iOS, Android, and desktop.
Last week, Twitter also added podcasts to its platform as a part of its newly redesigned Spaces Tab. The feature introduced personalized hubs that brings group audio content together by specific themes like News, Music, Sports, and more.
Twitter vs Elon Musk
Currently, Twitter is in the middle of a legal battle over Elon Musk’s $44-billion deal. As Elon Musk called off his Twitter acquisition deal explaining his decision by the high presence of bots on the platform, Twitter filed a suit against the billionaire. The legal saga started.
Recently, Elon Musk who stated Twitter is missing clarity issued a challenge to the current Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal in order to engage him in a public debate on the social media platform’s bots. According to Elon Musk, Agrawal should publicly prove that the number of daily fake or spam users on the microblogging platform is indeed less than 5%.
Last week, Elon Musk went even further. His legal team has subpoenaed former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey. Twitter’s former head of consumer product, Kayvon Beykpour, and Twitter’s former revenue and product lead, Bruce Falck, received the subpoena as well.
