Social network company Twitter (NYSE: TWTR) has announced that some of its users can now begin to use non-fungible tokens (NFT) as their profile pictures. Allowing selected Twitter customers to use NFTs as profile pictures represent the company’s biggest foray into the non-fungible tokens’ space. The NFTs industry is speedily growing, with a constantly increasing number of adoptions. Twitter said the new NFT feature, powered by OpenSea, will be exclusively available to users of its Blue subscription service on iOS, which is currently not global. The subscription service is live in some early markets, including Canada, New Zealand, Australia, and the US. Consecutively, support for the web and android users will roll out. Although iOS users are the only ones with access to the unique NFT profile pictures on Twitter, other users of the social media app will see the change.
NFT Profile Pictures on Twitter is Here
Justin Taylor, who recently joined Twitter as the head of consumer product marketing mid last year, announced the new NFT profile pictures in a tweet on the 20th of January. Taylor wrote, “NFT Profile Photos are here!.” He pointed out that users need to connect their crypto wallets before they can begin to enjoy the service. To use the new feature, Twitter Blue users need to go to their profile and press the “edit profile” button at the top right to change the picture. After pressing the button, there would be an option “choose NFT,” which will require the user to connect their wallet. Twitter explained:
“Set your profile picture to an NFT you own by connecting your crypto wallet and verifying your address. Access to Twitter Blue Labs is required to connect a wallet as this feature is still under active development.”
The supported wallets are Coinbase, Rainbow, MetaMask, Trust, Argent, and Ledger Live.
In addition, the social network company executive uploaded a short video showing different Twitter Blue users changing their profile pictures to various NFTs. In less than 24 hours, the short clip has generated nearly 6 million views and several retweets.
