The CW Television Network has partnered with the fan-focused NFT platform Chronicle to create 5,000 free NFTs to promote the magic competition TV show Penn & Teller: Fool Us.
A recent announcement published by The CW Network revealed that the TV network has partnered with the fan-focused NFT platform Chronicle to leverage the potential of blockchain-based non-fungible tokens.
As part of the partnership, The CW is launching a set of 5,000 free NFTs on the Chronicle platform. These NFTs will be a digital collector’s card that will feature art from the magic competition TV show Penn & Teller: Fool Us. In addition to the standard set of NFTs, The CW is also launching 250 rare silver editions and 100 epic gold edition NFTs available for purchase on Chronicle.
To add to that, The CW has decided to release video clips featuring Penn & Teller as NFTs as the new episodes of the show stream this season.
The CW’s decision to partner with Chronicle to launch their NFTs and promote the new season of the TV show comes as no surprise. The platform was founded by Tim Glover, who previously led fan experiences for the Jurassic World movie franchise, and Jim Jin, a renowned blockchain investor and former Thorchain advisor. Their experiences put together make the perfect blend to do something huge at the intersection of blockchain and the media and entertainment industries.
Besides, over the past year, NFTs have gained solid ground across the media and entertainment industry. The excitement among fans to own unique digital collections is felt throughout social media. So, this seems to be the perfect time for The CW to use NFTs as a smart marketing strategy to promote its TV show while offering true fans of the show a valued collectible.
Hiram Norman, Executive Vice President, Digital, The CW, while expressing his thoughts on the same, said:
“We’re excited to use NFTs to promote the new season return of PENN & TELLER: FOOL US to create a more meaningful connection with fans.”
“Offering NFTs on Chronicle is the perfect way to enhance fanship for PENN & TELLER: FOOL US by letting fans have authenticated ownership of these unique digital collectibles created for the show,” added Doug Neil, CMO of Chronicle.
NFTs for the Masses
There’s no denying that one of the major hurdles in the adoption of crypto – and its several use cases including DeFi and NFTs – is the complex user interface of Web3 platforms. Users need an exorbitant amount of technical expertise to buy, sell, and trade NFTs and other crypto assets on decentralized platforms.
Speaking of NFTs, it is evident that they have gained significant popularity in recent months. Yet, a vast majority of people still fail to understand how they could become part of this growing economy.
Through its NFT platform, Chronicle aims to lower the barriers to entry for average Web2 users. It leverages the traditional Web2 architecture for its web and mobile applications in a bid to negate the tiresome process of integrating wallets and making token swaps to buy NFTs while using decentralized platforms. By doing so, Chronicle also gets rid of the high transaction fees users must pay every time they transact NFTs.
Furthermore, the fact is that most of us are still fans of (or are at least conditioned to) email sign-ups and all other centralized models. And the Chronicle team seemingly understands that the path to complete decentralization is through a hybrid model. So, the platform stitches together the ease and flexibility of a centralized platform to the use cases of a decentralized one.
Rather than crypto wallet integrations, Chronicle enables users to sign up using their email addresses and get an integrated wallet to buy and store all their NFTs. In addition, it plans to integrate mainstream payment platforms such as Stripe and PayPal so that buying and selling NFTs on Chronicle is as easy as placing an order on an eCommerce store.
Chronicle recently announced partnerships with the Copyrights Group to release NFTs of the famous fictional character Paddington, and Pandas International, a nonprofit organization supporting endangered Giant Pandas.
