The company’s vice president of trust and safety, Ella Irwin, told reporters that Twitter made some cuts in the trust and safety team on Friday night due to low volume growth.
Social media giant Twitter has reportedly cut more staff overseeing global content moderation in a move to stabilize its business model. According to media outlet Bloomberg, the Elon Musk-owned social media platform reduced its workforce from Dublin and Singapore offices. Since taking the company’s helm last year, the tech billionaire has significantly reduced Twitter’s workforce including CEO Parag Agrawal, CFO Ned Segal, and policy chief Vijaya Gadde.
Twitter Staff Reduction
Nonetheless, Musk has defended his stance to cut down the Twitter staff on reduced revenue collection from worldwide advertisements. Moreover, Musk has tried to increase revenue collection by introducing paid Twitter blue among other features. Following a low reception on paid subscriptions, Musk has turned to subsequent layoffs both in the United States and overseas.
The company’s vice president of trust and safety, Ella Irwin, told reporters that Twitter made some cuts in the trust and safety team on Friday night due to low volume growth. However, Irwin noted that the company has not sent home key employees to the trust and safety department.
“We have thousands of people within Trust and Safety who work content moderation and have not made cuts to the teams that do that work daily,” Irwin noted.
Some of the reportedly affected Twitter employees in the recent layoff included Nur Azhar Bin Ayob, a recent hire as the head of site integrity for the Asia-Pacific region, and Analuisa Dominguez, a senior director of revenue policy.
Elon Musk Morphs Twitter via Web3
In the past few months, Twitter has laid off more than 3,700 employees to cut operations costs. Additionally, hundreds more have since resigned as a show of solidarity with the affected people. As a result, the company is facing lawsuits and potentially more on the way from the affected employees. Already in court, Musk is accused of discriminating against women employees while conducting the layoffs.
According to the lawsuit, Musk is accused of laying off 57 percent of its female workers compared to 47 percent of men. As such, Musk is accused of violating federal and California laws banning workplace sex discrimination.
In his defense, Musk has indicated that the intention of acquiring Twitter is to move forward with an all-in-one application dubbed X. With reports of blockchain integration, Musk is reportedly venturing into the Web3 industry via Twitter acquisition.
Speculation of Musk adopting Bitcoin, Dogecoin, and other crypto assets as a form of payment on Twitter has skyrocketed since its acquisition last year. Moreover, Musk is a stout supporter of Dogecoin (DOGE) and Bitcoin (BTC) as payment infrastructure.
